The purpose of reaction to fire testing is to determine whether a building fuels a fire. Some fire reaction criteria may include the rate at which a flame spreads, the ignitability when exposed to heat, the amount of heat, smoke, toxic gases, and/or flaming droplets/particles, etc. Building materials must often be tested to these types of standards to evaluate the performance of these materials when exposed to heat and fire. ÁñÁ«¿¿±ÈÍøÕ¾ Armorcoat® 8 mil safety and security films have been tested to these standards and have been proven to be safe building materials that would not contribute to fire. (Note: these standards are not the same as fire resistance standards which measure the duration in time a product can withstand a fire.

The purpose of these standards is to evaluate the performance of impact resistant materials when subjected to impact from small and large missiles followed by cycle pressure variations that simulate high winds during severe weather. These glazing systems are designed to protect against damage and water intrusion during severe weather. A glazing system includes the glazing, frame, attachment system and seals unless the product tested covers the entire opening such as storm shutters. ÁñÁ«¿¿±ÈÍøÕ¾ Armorcoat® 8 mil safety and security film has been tested to these standards on 3/16″ tempered glass with a wet-glaze attachment system on standard commercial aluminium frames.

(Note: this does not mean that film and attachment system has code approval

or notice of acceptance. Code or product acceptance is only given to the entire

glazing system and not for products that enhance the performance of just

the glazing.)

The purpose of burglary resistance testing is to determine the resistance capabilities of building materials including glazing. These materials are subjected to various amounts of force from varying objects from small hand tools to power tools. These objects, repeated number of blows and time are used to determine the level of performance given to the tested material. ÁñÁ«¿¿±ÈÍøÕ¾ Armorcoat® 14 mil safety and security film has been tested to these standards and have demonstrated the ability to resist certain levels of forced entry.

Currently, there are no codes specifying the performance of glazing

systems affected by seismic events. There has been testing done to

measure the performance of glazing during these events and they mainly

consist of “racking” the glazing systems and then determining the fallout

of the glass. Obviously, the application of Armorcoat® safety and security

film will significantly reduce the fallout due to the breakage of the glass.

The following report details one particular set of tests and the performance

of the films on page 72.
